The US state of California is once again in shock and mourning following yet another mass shooting, this time in the coastal city of Half Moon Bay. Seven former co-workers, all Chinese-American farm workers, were killed in the attack. The suspect, 67-year-old Zhao Chunli, was arrested after turning himself in at a local police station.

This latest tragedy comes on the heels of two other mass shootings that took place in the state within the last eight days. Just a few days ago, 11 people were killed during Lunar New Year celebrations in Monterey Park. And, over a week ago, six people, including a teenage mother and her baby, were killed in a shooting in Goshen, north of Los Angeles.

California Governor Gavin Newsom, who was at a hospital meeting with victims of the earlier mass shooting when he was pulled away to be briefed about the second attack, described the situation as “tragedy upon tragedy.” He took to Twitter to express his condolences and solidarity with the victims and their families, calling the violence “unspeakable.”

This latest mass shooting took place at two farms in the Half Moon Bay area. Four victims were found at a mushroom farm, while the other three were later discovered at a nearby trucking business. An eighth victim is currently being treated in the hospital and is in critical condition.
