Hezbollah Launches Rockets at Israeli Airbase in Retaliation for Attacks

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Hezbollah has launched numerous rockets at Israel’s Ramat David Airbase, located east of Haifa, in retaliation for a series of Israeli attacks, including hundreds of strikes in southern Lebanon over the weekend. Sirens were activated across northern Israel early on Sunday. The assault, if confirmed, would represent Hezbollah’s most distant attack inside Israel since the commencement of the ongoing clashes in October last year. The Israeli military reported that over 100 projectiles were fired from Lebanon on Sunday, leading to hundreds of thousands seeking shelter and the closure of schools in northern Israel. Educational activities in northern Israel are suspended until at least Monday at 6pm (15:00 GMT), impacting hundreds of thousands of children.

Additionally, the Israeli military imposed restrictions on large gatherings in northern Israel, including Haifa. Despite the attacks, there were no reports of casualties or significant damage in Israel on Sunday. The United Nations special coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, warned that the latest violence could lead to an “imminent catastrophe” in the Middle East, emphasizing that a military solution was not the answer. The situation remains tense, with both sides at risk of escalating the conflict.
