Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to visit Tehran on July 30, as confirmed by the Foreign Office (FO), to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s newly elected President, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian. This visit comes in response to an invitation extended by the speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. According to FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, this visit reflects the commitment of both countries to bolster bilateral cooperation at the leadership level. The formal swearing-in of the new Iranian President, who emerged victorious in a recent election, is scheduled for July 30, 2024. It’s worth noting that the election was prompted by the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May.

In addition to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s impending visit to Tehran, Pakistan’s Foreign Office has also expressed its support for the ‘Declaration of Unity’ announced by various Palestinian political factions in Beijing. The FO commended China’s efforts in mediating discussions between these factions, recognizing the crucial need for unity among the Palestinian people, especially in light of the ongoing conflict and human rights violations, particularly in Gaza, perpetrated by Israeli occupation forces. The statement issued by the Foreign Office reiterated Pakistan’s call for immediate international intervention to halt the illegal aggression in Gaza and reaffirmed its support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination. Pakistan emphasized the need for the establishment of an independent homeland for Palestinians, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital, underscoring the unwavering solidarity of Pakistan with the Palestinian cause.
