12 Militants Killed in Bajaur Check Post Attack; 11 Security Personnel Martyred

[post-views]

Security forces foiled a major terrorist assault on a joint check post in Bajaur on Monday, killing 12 militants, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The attack was attributed to Fitna al-Khwarij, described by the military as an Indian-sponsored proxy group.

Despite a swift response by troops, the attackers rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall. The powerful blast destroyed the check post structure and led to the martyrdom of 11 security personnel. Forces engaged the fleeing militants and neutralised all 12 involved in the assault.

The explosion also damaged nearby homes, killing a young girl and injuring seven civilians, including women and children. Security forces later launched clearance operations in the area to ensure no remaining militants were present. The ISPR reiterated that counterterrorism efforts under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” strategy would continue to eliminate foreign-backed threats.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, paying tribute to the fallen personnel and expressing solidarity with their families.

The incident comes amid a broader rise in militancy. According to the Pakistan Security Report 2025 by the Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies, 699 terrorist attacks were recorded last year, reflecting a significant increase compared to the previous year.
