Islamabad – The Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) IRIS portal has developed a critical error that has left thousands of salaried individuals unable to file their income tax returns for Tax Year 2025. At the submission stage, the system displays the message: “Please enter correct receipt value”, which cannot be rectified despite repeated attempts by taxpayers, lawyers, and tax experts.
A formal complaint has been lodged with the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) under Section 10 of the FTO Ordinance, 2000 by tax lawyer Khurram Shahzad. The complaint highlights maladministration, inefficiency, and incompetence within the FBR’s IT Wing, accusing it of failing to provide solutions despite repeated requests. FBR’s helpline and official email responses have been vague, generic, and non-responsive, leaving taxpayers stranded as the September 30 filing deadline approaches.

Experts warn that the unresolved glitch could result in taxpayers being wrongfully declared inactive under the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, leading to harassment and significant revenue losses to the exchequer. Tax practitioners have urged the FTO to direct FBR to immediately resolve the portal malfunction, extend the filing deadline if necessary, and restructure its IT Wing with qualified professionals to prevent future failures.
