Pakistan and Qatar on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to remain in close contact amid rising regional tensions after Israel’s deadly strike on Doha. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the sidelines of the Emergency Arab–Islamic Summit, joined by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
Shehbaz strongly condemned the September 9 Israeli strike as a “flagrant violation” of Qatar’s sovereignty and international law, pledging Pakistan’s full solidarity with the Gulf state. He stressed that Pakistan and Qatar’s historic fraternal ties would continue to strengthen in the face of Israeli provocations. The premier also underlined the urgent need for Muslim unity to halt Israel’s aggression in the Middle East.
The prime minister praised Qatar for convening the emergency summit and recalled that, on Doha’s request, Pakistan had sought a UN Security Council session to address the crisis. Sheikh Tamim expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s support and for Shehbaz’s participation in the summit.
Israel’s strike last week killed five Hamas members and a young Qatari security officer, drawing widespread condemnation. The UN Human Rights Council is set to debate the attack today.
