Parliament May Bring Another Amendment: Tallal Chaudhry

[post-views]

Minister of State for Interior Tallal Chaudhry said the government may introduce another constitutional amendment if needed to maintain political stability. Speaking in Faisalabad, he defended the recently passed 26th and 27th Amendments, insisting they strengthened the system. He said parliament had full authority to amend the Constitution whenever required and must be seen exercising its powers. Follow Republic Policy

Chaudhry called the resignations of senior judges “political”. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Athar Minallah quit the Supreme Court after the 27th Amendment became law, calling it an attack on judicial independence. Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza also resigned from the Lahore High Court. Chaudhry said judges take oath under the Constitution and should not resign when parliament amends it. He criticised what he termed political judgments and excessive suo motu actions by courts in the past. On Faisalabad by-elections, he said PTI had boycotted seats where it feared defeat, making PML-N’s victory likely. Follow Republic Policy on X
