Pakistan stated on Friday that its ceasefire understanding with Afghanistan cannot be considered effective because terrorist attacks from Afghan soil have persisted despite repeated assurances. The Foreign Office clarified that the arrangement was never a traditional ceasefire between two states but a specific understanding that Afghan-sponsored militant groups would halt their attacks inside Pakistan. The spokesperson said that major assaults carried out by the TTP, FAK, and Afghan nationals after the announcement clearly show that the commitment has not been honoured. He also referred to the recent shooting incident in Islamabad, saying such attacks prove that Afghan nationals continue to engage in violence within Pakistan. Follow Republic Policy
He added that Pakistan cannot remain optimistic when cross-border terrorism continues unchecked. The spokesperson emphasised that the understanding must be seen only in the context of preventing terrorism, not as a conventional ceasefire agreement between two neighbouring countries. Pakistan, he said, expects Afghanistan to fulfil its commitments and prevent militant activity originating from its territory. Follow Republic Policy
