Sindh Introduces Grading System, Replaces Traditional Marks in Schools

[post-views]

KARACHI – The Sindh government has abolished the traditional marks system across all educational boards and introduced a new grading system for matriculation and intermediate exams, officials announced.

Sindh Minister for Universities and Educational Boards Muhammad Ismail Rahu said the change aligns with international standards and federal directives from the Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC). Under the new system, results will be issued in grades rather than numerical marks, and students scoring below 40 percent will be declared “undergraded” or fail.

The grading scale ranges from A++ (96–100%) to D (40–50%), with any score below 40 percent receiving a “U” grade. Students who fail any paper will be allowed to reappear to improve their results.

Rahu explained the rollout will be phased: starting in 2026 with Class 9 and 11 exams (SSC-I and HSSC-I), and in 2027 for Class 10 and 12 exams (SSC-II and HSSC-II). Once fully implemented, the system will also include a Grade Point Average (GPA) framework.

The minister said the reform aims to standardize assessment across all boards in Sindh, ensuring uniform evaluation and improving transparency in student performance reporting.
