Iran Undecided on US Talks as Tensions Rise

[post-views]

Iran has not yet decided whether it will attend upcoming talks with the United States in Pakistan, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei. Speaking on state television, he criticized recent US actions against Iranian vessels, calling them “piracy” and questioning Washington’s commitment to diplomacy. His remarks followed reports that US forces had seized tankers allegedly linked to Iranian oil trade, further straining relations.

Pakistan, which is hosting and facilitating the dialogue, is still waiting for Iran’s formal response. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar emphasized that time is limited, as a temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran is nearing its end. Pakistani officials have been actively encouraging both sides to return to negotiations and extend the truce to allow diplomacy a chance.

Meanwhile, US leadership remains firm. President Donald Trump expressed confidence in securing a strong deal but signaled reluctance to prolong the ceasefire. He warned that military action could resume if negotiations fail.

The situation remains uncertain after an initial round of talks in Islamabad ended without agreement but avoided collapse. Rising tensions, including naval seizures and disputes over trade and nuclear commitments, continue to complicate efforts for peace.
