Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in Russia for high-level talks with Vladimir Putin, aiming to strengthen coordination as tensions continue following the recent United States–Israel conflict with Iran. Araghchi said the visit is part of ongoing consultations between Tehran and Moscow on key regional and global issues.
He noted that meeting Putin offers a timely chance to assess the current state of the conflict and explore possible next steps. Iran views close cooperation with Russia as crucial, especially as uncertainty surrounds the fragile ceasefire agreed on April 8 after weeks of fighting.
Although the truce brought a pause in hostilities, disagreements remain—particularly over shipping access in the Strait of Hormuz and a US-imposed blockade on Iranian ports. Additional tensions involving Israel and Lebanon risk further complicating the situation.
Russia is expected to play a major role in shaping what comes next, whether through diplomacy or escalation. During their meeting, Putin reaffirmed Russia’s strong support for Iran and emphasized a shared commitment to regional peace and continued strategic ties.
Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts continue elsewhere, including mediation led by Pakistan, as all sides cautiously explore paths toward a more stable and lasting resolution.
