BARCELONA: Spanish police apprehended the father of two Pakistani sisters who were murdered last year in an apparent honour killing in their native country. The sisters, Aneesa Abbas (24) and Arooj Abbas (21), were living in Spain before being lured back to Pakistan, where they were killed by family members for wanting to end their forced marriages.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was arrested in Terrassa, a town situated about 30 km northwest of Barcelona, where he had been residing with his family. The authorities are investigating his involvement in the alleged conspiracy leading to the murder of his daughters.

The sisters were strangled and shot in Gujrat, located in eastern Pakistan, on May 20, 2022, and six members of their family, including one of their brothers and an uncle, were taken into custody shortly after the heinous act.
