In an unexpected move, Imran Khan, the Chairperson of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), announced the postponement of his election rally in Lahore after the interim government refused to lift the Section 144 imposed in the provincial capital.
Khan took to Twitter to express his frustration, claiming that the Section 144 was unfairly imposed “exclusively on the PTI election campaign,” while other public activities in Lahore continued without restriction.
He further added, “Zaman Park has been completely cordoned off by containers and a heavy police presence. It is evident that, just like on 8th March, the Punjab Chief Minister and police are attempting to instigate clashes to falsely implicate PTI leadership and workers, and as an excuse to postpone the elections.”
The decision to postpone the PTI rally was met with mixed reactions, with some supporters expressing disappointment and others commending Khan for taking a stand against what they perceive as political oppression.
The PTI leader’s move comes as tensions continue to mount in the lead-up to the upcoming elections in Pakistan, with allegations of vote-rigging and corruption casting a shadow over the country’s political landscape.
