US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, expressed his desire for Pakistan and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to reach a deal, stating that Washington is prepared to support the country in its efforts to resume a $6.5 billion bailout program that had stalled. Blome indicated that the IMF’s bailout package for Islamabad would take shape within the next few days.
Speaking at an event on Tuesday, Blome also expressed Washington’s willingness to assist Islamabad with the ongoing terrorism challenge.
The diplomat has been visiting important Pakistani cities lately for meetings with groups from different walks of life, indicating significant progress in diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Since late last year, the IMF and Islamabad have been discussing a stalled bailout package, with Pakistan seeking a $1.1bn tranche to address its deteriorating balance of payments crisis, which would also pave the way for affluent capitals to provide assistance in overcoming financial complexities.
