Election Commission’s decision to make SMS service 8300 free

The Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to make SMS service 8300 free from next Monday.

This announcement was made by Election Commission Spokesperson Syed Nadeem Haider, Additional Director General Nighat Sadiq and Project Director of Project Management Unit while participating in FM Network’s talk show ‘Forum’.

He said that voters can check the details of their constituencies and polling stations by sending their computerized identity card number to 8300.

Election Commission officials said voters must bring their computerized national identity cards to the polling station to vote. The Election Commission officials have said that voting can be done even when the ID card expires and voting can also be done on the token issued for the new ID card.

ECP officials said that there is a mechanism using technology to ensure transparency of the election process.

Additional Director General ECP Nighat Sadiq said that a large number of international observers have also been invited to monitor the elections.

ECP Spokesperson Syed Nadeem Haider said that under the Election Act, time has been fixed for the completion of election results. He said that the presiding officers are bound to send the election results to the Election Commission by 2 am. In case of delay, the Returning Officer will inquire from the Presiding Officer about the reason for the delay and submit it to the Election Commission. He emphasized that the election results should be finalized by 10 am the next day.
