ISLAMABAD: The founder of PTI and his wife Bushra Bibi were sentenced to seven years imprisonment in the illegal marriage case.

The verdict was handed down by Senior Civil Judge Qudratullah Niazi, who heard the case in Adiala Jail over the past few weeks, and imposed a fine of Rs 500,000.

After recording the statements of several witnesses, including Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband Khawar Manika, the court came to the conclusion that Bushra Bibi got married before completing her Idda.

Khawar Manika had approached the court through a petition stating that Bushra Bibi and PTI Chairman’s marriage took place during Eid.

He also accused the PTI founder chairman of ruining his life and said that the accused maligned the complainant and her family to achieve his immoral goals by interfering in the peaceful marital life of the complainant.

During a hearing, the PTI chairman and Manika exchanged harsh words, while Aun Chaudhry, a former close associate of Imran Khan, also appeared as a witness against him.

Awan Chaudhry has parted ways with the PTI and is one of the founding members of the Stability Pakistan Party. He is a joint candidate of IPP and Muslim League-N from a constituency in Lahore.
