ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa rejected the allegations made by Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Liaquat Ali Chatta resigned from his post after admitting to facilitating election rigging under his watch. He accused the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Justice of being involved in election rigging.
Responding to the allegations, Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isane, speaking briefly to the media, said that the allegations of election rigging against him are baseless.
He stressed that when someone makes allegations, evidence should be provided, but no evidence was provided.
The Chief Justice rejected the allegations saying that there is no truth in them.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had decided not to take suo motu notice of the allegations leveled by the former commissioner of Rawalpindi.
According to the sources, after Chatta’s allegations, an important consultative meeting of the judges was held in the Chief Justice’s chamber. Justice Manzoor Akhtar, Justice Afridi, Justice Ayesha Malik and Justice Athar Manullah participated in the meeting.
During the session, the judges deliberated whether to examine the allegations leveled by the Rawalpindi Commissioner and consider taking suo motu notice.
Ultimately, the judges concluded not to automatically take cognizance of the allegations.
Sources indicated that the hearing of the election-related case was already scheduled for February 19, during which the aspects related to the allegations leveled by the Commissioner Rawalpindi will be examined.
