Pakistan Urges US to Retrieve Weapons Left in Afghanistan, Highlights Regional Security Concerns

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has raised concerns about the ongoing security challenges in the region, urging the United States to take back the military equipment left behind during its withdrawal from Afghanistan. According to spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan, the presence of these weapons in Afghanistan poses a serious threat to regional peace and stability, particularly with their potential misuse for terrorism against Pakistan.

Khan reiterated Pakistan’s desire for peaceful relations with Afghanistan but emphasized that Afghan territory is being used to launch attacks against Pakistan. He also called on the Afghan government to take concrete steps to address this issue. Additionally, Khan confirmed that the Torkham border between the two countries remains closed, due to Afghan forces building posts in disputed areas, a situation Pakistan strongly condemns.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar recently received a call from the US National Security Advisor, who praised Pakistan’s anti-terrorism efforts and thanked President Trump for his support. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing counterterrorism cooperation, and Dar congratulated the National Security Advisor on his new role.

Furthermore, Khan mentioned that Foreign Minister Dar also received a call from the UAE’s Foreign Minister, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who extended his congratulations for Ramadan and discussed the positive outcomes of the UAE Crown Prince’s visit to Pakistan.

On the international front, Pakistan will continue to advocate for Palestinian rights. Foreign Minister Dar is set to attend the upcoming Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) meeting in Jeddah, where he will address the situation in Palestine, including Israeli aggression and the humanitarian crisis. Pakistan also condemned Israel’s recent restrictions on Gaza, especially during the holy month of Ramadan, and urged for the free entry of humanitarian aid.
