The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is working on seven projects in Pakistan this year and plans to start 16 more next year. This is part of a strong partnership between ADB and Pakistan.
Emma Fan, the new ADB country director in Pakistan, mentioned this during her meeting with Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, on Monday. Asad Aleem, the deputy country director, was also there.
Senator Aurangzeb welcomed Emma Fan and expressed hope that their partnership would strengthen during her time in Pakistan. He discussed the country’s economy and ongoing reforms in various areas like state-owned enterprises, taxes, and energy to improve how these sectors operate.
Emma Fan praised the reforms happening in the economy and shared that ADB is developing a new partnership strategy that focuses on important issues like climate change and economic growth.
She also informed the minister about ADB’s investments, upcoming projects, and support for reforms aimed at reducing poverty, improving the economy, battling climate change, and providing budgetary help.
Emma Fan provided updates on several ongoing and future projects, including financial aid for poverty reduction, support for state-owned and small businesses, installing smart meters for power companies, setting up early flood warning systems, and a digital transformation in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
