Aleema Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, revealed on Friday that her brother has decided to approach international human rights organizations over the alleged injustices faced by his party members.
Speaking to journalists outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after visiting Imran Khan, Aleema quoted her brother as saying that after exhausting domestic legal options, the only remaining avenue was to take their human rights plea to global bodies, to which Pakistan is a signatory.
“We went to the high court, and the HR petition was addressed by the chief justice, but the cruelty continued as no court in the country is willing to hear our plea,” she said, citing Imran Khan’s comments about the ongoing mistreatment.
Aleema also referenced incidents involving PTI supporters, including Sami Wazir, who she claimed lost his mental balance and was unable to walk after being released from military custody. She also mentioned the case of Zill-e-Shah, who allegedly faced torture.
She noted the disparity in the treatment PTI leaders received, revealing that meetings were held in the night when authorities allowed it, and described how the government’s actions were inconsistent. Aleema also dismissed claims by government members that Imran Khan’s tweets were a reason for halting talks, highlighting that the authorities had themselves denied a meeting with the negotiation committee.

On the subject of the Al-Qadir case, Aleema warned that if it reached the high court, the world would learn of the alleged injustice. She also expressed confidence that Imran Khan would eventually be acquitted of all charges, reiterating his steadfast belief that he would prevail in the legal battles.
Aleema also addressed the controversy surrounding Salman Akram Raja’s appointment as PTI Secretary General. She clarified that Imran Khan had appointed him, and that Raja’s actions were in accordance with Imran’s directives, adding that PTI had been unified behind its founder since February 8 and was not under external control.
She firmly denied claims by Prime Minister’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah that she aimed to take over PTI, describing the accusations as laughable. She emphasized that their sole focus was to share Imran’s messages with the media as long as he remained incarcerated, but reiterated that they had no involvement in politics.
Aleema also criticized the jail’s treatment of her brother, saying family members and Imran’s personal physician had been repeatedly denied access to him. She described the denial of communication with his sons as mental torture and pointed out that her sister had been initially denied entry to visit Imran, which they had protested.
In a separate statement, PTI Secretary General Barrister Gohar Ali Khan defended Salman Akram Raja’s appointment, asserting that the decision was made by Imran Khan, as per the party’s structure. Gohar also responded to allegations of party rule violations by senior PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat, stating that internal party matters were for PTI’s founder to address. He also confirmed that PTI would hold a third round of talks with the government committee, submitting their points in writing.
