The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Syed Asim Munir, hosted a ceremony at the Army Auditorium in GHQ, Rawalpindi, to honour Arshad Nadeem’s historic achievement, as reported by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The event saw the presence of sports teams, legendary Olympians, and notable figures, including members of the 1984 Olympic and National Hockey Teams, the National Cricket Team, and esteemed individuals such as Jehangir Khan, Islahuddin Siddique, Shahbaz Senior, Sohail Abbas, Muhammad Asif, and Aisamul Haq. Additionally, Arshad Nadeem’s close relatives, associates, and coaches graced the occasion.
General Munir commended Nadeem for his outstanding performance at the Paris Olympics, where he secured Pakistan’s first-ever gold medal in a singles event, setting a new Olympic record. He attributed Nadeem’s success to his unwavering commitment, perseverance, and passion for excellence.
The army chief recognized Nadeem’s achievement as a source of national pride and emphasized that the entire nation had celebrated him in a manner befitting his accomplishment. Furthermore, General Munir reaffirmed the military’s dedication to supporting sportsmen and the broader Pakistani youth, stressing the significance of youth engagement, development, and recreation for a prosperous society.
In response, Arshad Nadeem expressed gratitude and highlighted the potential of Pakistani youth. He encouraged hard work, positivity, and perseverance in overcoming challenges, inspiring the nation with his words of wisdom.
