Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has accused Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu of being “in denial” about the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, declaring that the international community has reached a tipping point, saying, “Enough is enough.”

Speaking to ABC News, Albanese revealed that frustration with Israel’s conduct in Gaza directly influenced Australia’s decision to formally recognise Palestinian statehood at the United Nations next month. The move aligns Australia with France, Canada, and the United Kingdom, signalling growing diplomatic momentum toward Palestinian recognition.

Albanese said he informed Netanyahu of the decision in a recent call, during which the Israeli prime minister repeated his earlier justifications for continued military action — a campaign that has killed more than 61,500 Palestinians since October 2023.

Criticising this stance, Albanese stressed that further military escalation would not yield peace, urging a shift toward diplomatic solutions. He described the recognition of Palestine as a moral and strategic necessity, warning that missing this opportunity would deepen the crisis.
