In a bold and alarming move, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has hijacked the Jaffar Express, a passenger train traveling from Quetta in southwestern Balochistan to Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The train, carrying over 400 passengers across nine bogies, was forced to a halt after BLA fighters blew up the railway tracks and opened fire. The insurgent group has claimed responsibility for taking control of the train and holding the passengers hostage, warning that any military action against them will result in fatalities.
The BLA’s spokesperson, Jeeyand Baloch, issued a statement confirming that six Pakistani military personnel have been killed in the confrontation, and the hostages remain under their custody. “Any military incursion will be met with an equally forceful response,” the statement read. In response to the crisis, Pakistani security forces have mobilized to the scene in the Mushqaf area of Balochistan’s Bolan district.

This incident underscores the ongoing tension in Balochistan, where separatist militant groups like the BLA have long fought for independence, citing the unfair exploitation of the region’s vast natural resources by the Pakistani government. Despite Balochistan’s large landmass, it remains Pakistan’s least populated province, home to key strategic assets like the Gwadar port.
The Pakistani government has implemented emergency measures, with local authorities and institutions now working to address the crisis. This attack adds to the broader history of insurgency in Balochistan, where separatist demands for resource control have led to frequent violent clashes.
