Beijing has called for a comprehensive investigation following a terrorist attack on a convoy carrying Chinese staff from the Port Qasim Electric Power Company (Private) Limited near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Sunday night. The attack resulted in the deaths of two Chinese nationals and injured another. Initial reports indicate that seven additional people were injured and at least eight vehicles were damaged.
In a statement released early Monday, the Chinese Embassy and Consulates General in Pakistan strongly condemned the attack, expressing deep condolences to the victims and their families.
They emphasized their commitment to handling the aftermath in collaboration with Pakistani authorities. The embassy has launched an emergency plan, urging Pakistan to thoroughly investigate the incident, severely punish the perpetrators, and take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, institutions, and projects in Pakistan.
The embassy also reminded Chinese citizens, enterprises, and projects in Pakistan to remain vigilant, closely monitor the security situation, strengthen security measures, and take all possible precautions.
In a separate statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) extended its deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims, both Chinese and Pakistani. The FO condemned the attack as a deplorable act of terrorism, asserting that it targets not only Pakistan but also the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China. The ministry reaffirmed Pakistan’s determination to bring those responsible to justice.
