In a candid disclosure, the United States made it clear on Wednesday that there were no discussions underway for a fresh nuclear agreement with Iran, despite recent behind-the-scenes diplomacy between the two adversaries.
Addressing the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphatically stated, “There is no imminent agreement on the horizon, although we remain open to exploring diplomatic avenues.”
Blinken emphasized that the future of the US-Iran relationship would be determined by Iran’s actions, urging the nation to “refrain from taking steps that exacerbate tensions” not only with the US but also in the Middle East.
