WASHINGTON: China has not yet provided substantial military aid to Russia despite its diplomatic support, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday.
For weeks, Blinken has been warning that China may be considering Russian requests for weapons to fight in Ukraine, but so far, there have been no signs of significant military aid from Beijing.
At a Senate committee hearing, Blinken said, “As we speak today, we have not seen them cross that line,” in response to a question about whether China was providing “lethal aid” to Russia.
During a recent visit to Moscow, Chinese President Xi Jinping proposed a ceasefire in the ongoing war, but the US is sceptical of Russia’s intentions.
Blinken stated that China’s diplomatic and political support, as well as its material support to Russia, are going against the interests of the US in ending the war.
Furthermore, the US plans to encourage other countries to extradite Russian President Vladimir Putin if he visits following an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court.
