On Tuesday, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced the sighting of the moon for the month of Shawwal, which means that Eidul Fitr will be celebrated across Pakistan on Wednesday (April 10). The announcement was made after a rigorous process of moon-sighting testimonies, which involved several committees and officials from different sectors.
Committee members attended the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meeting, officials from the Meteorological Department, SPARCO, Science and Technology sectors, and other experts. Separate meetings of zonal and district Ruet committees were also held at their respective regional headquarters.
After the conclusion of the Zonal Sighting of the Crescent Committee meeting, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, addressed a press conference to make the announcement. He said that moon-sighting testimonies had been received from several areas, including Kohlu, Khyber, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Gujranwala, and Karachi.
However, reports from Lahore indicated that the evening was cloudy, which made it difficult to spot the crescent moon. Despite eager anticipation and diligent observation, the elusive moon remained hidden behind a thick veil of clouds, disappointing many who had gathered in hopes of catching a glimpse.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had earlier predicted that there were more chances for the sighting of the Shawwal moon. The met department had said that the weather across the country would be clear, making it easier to spot the moon.
The announcement of the sighting of the moon signifies that Eidul Fitr will be celebrated across Pakistan on Wednesday. The process of moon-sighting testimonies involved several committees and officials from different sectors, ensuring a fair and accurate decision. Despite the cloudy evening in Lahore, the committee was able to make a well-informed decision based on the testimonies received from other areas.
