In the wake of President Arif Alvi’s recent revelation regarding the Official Secrets (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill, 2023, the President’s Secretariat took a significant step on Monday by announcing that the services of Mr. Waqar Ahmed, the secretary to the president, are no longer required and have been surrendered to the Establishment Division with immediate effect.

This development followed a definitive statement made by President Arif Alvi the previous day, which sent shockwaves through the country. In the statement, the President’s Secretariat formally communicated this decision, stating, “In view of the definite statement of yesterday, President’s Secretariat has written a letter to the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, indicating that the services of Mr. Waqar Ahmed, Secretary to the President, are no more required and are surrendered to the Establishment Division, immediately.”

The controversy erupted when President Alvi publicly declared that he had not signed the two bills in question, leading to widespread discussions and debates across the nation. In a statement shared on a social media platform, previously known as Twitter, President Alvi asserted, “As God is my witness, I did not sign Official Secrets Amendment Bill 2023 & Pakistan Army Amendment Bill 2023 as I disagreed with these laws.” This statement added fuel to the ongoing debate surrounding these significant legislative matters.
