Decades Apart, Dr Aafia Reunites

In a long-awaited reunion, Dr Aafia Siddiqui, the Pakistani neuroscientist who has been incarcerated in the United States for over a decade, finally had a heartfelt encounter with her younger sister, Dr Fauzia Siddiqui. The meeting took place at the Federal Medical Center, Carswell in Texas, according to a Twitter post by Senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).

Expressing his excitement, the JI senator revealed that another rendezvous with Dr Aafia is planned for Thursday. During this meeting, he will be accompanied by Clive Stafford-Smith, a prominent human rights activist renowned for his role in securing the release of Abdul Rabbani and Ahmed Rabbani from the infamous Guantanamo Bay prison.

Anticipating the upcoming encounter, Khan tweeted, “Tomorrow I will visit Dr Aafia in prison alongside Dr Fauzia and Clive Stafford-Smith.” The meeting holds significance as it provides an opportunity for Dr Aafia to connect with her loved ones and receive support from dedicated individuals who are championing her cause.
