A seismic shock with a magnitude of 5.9 rocked the northwest region of Iran, close to the frontier with Turkey, resulting in the unfortunate loss of three lives and leaving over 300 individuals injured, as reported by official sources.
According to the head of emergency services at a university located in the city of Khoy, near the earthquake’s origin, the private news agency disclosed the casualties.
The emergency official informed state television that some of the affected regions were facing snowfall, with below freezing temperatures and occasional power outages.
Iran, crisscrossed by substantial geological faultlines, has experienced several catastrophic earthquakes in recent times.
