Kami Rita Sets New Record with 29th Ascent of Mount Everest

Kami Rita, a renowned Sherpa guide, has once again surpassed his own record by achieving his 29th ascent to the summit of Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, as confirmed by expedition organizers from Seven Summits Treks. Early on Sunday morning, Rita reached the peak, which stands at an imposing height of 8,849 meters (29,032 feet).

The seasoned climber was reported to be in robust health as he commenced his descent to the mountain’s lower camps. Favorable weather conditions contributed to the success of his climb.

Rita’s Instagram post from the base camp encapsulated his relentless pursuit: “Back again for the 29th summit to the top of the world…One man’s job, another man/woman’s dream.”

In the previous year, Rita had scaled Everest twice, initially breaking the record for the most ascents and then extending it shortly thereafter.

His longstanding rivalry with fellow Sherpa guide Pasang Dawa, who has summited Everest 27 times, is a testament to their exceptional mountaineering skills.

Rita’s first successful climb dates back to 1994, and he has consistently returned to Everest’s summit nearly every year since, earning him the moniker “Everest Man.” His expertise has made him an indispensable guide for international climbers, continuing the legacy of his father, one of the pioneering Sherpa guides.

As the climbing season commences, Nepal, which boasts eight of the world’s ten tallest mountains, is set to welcome a multitude of climbers. The Nepalese authorities have issued numerous permits for this endeavor.

Despite the allure of Everest, the previous season was marked by tragedy, with 18 climbers losing their lives, making it one of the deadliest periods in the mountain’s climbing history.
