Ex-cricketer Sikandar Bakht slams Babar Azam’s captaincy skills

Sikandar Bakht, a former Pakistani Test cricketer, has criticised national side skipper Babar Azam, claiming that he lacks the qualities of a “born leader.”

During a recent interview on a YouTube channel, Bakht opined that Babar has a lot to learn as a captain, and that he doesn’t possess the innate skills of a natural leader.

“Babar is not a born leader. There are so many people who are born as leaders, and he has to learn a lot,” Bakht said.

Bakht also criticised Babar’s recent captaincy decisions, citing his failure to utilise players like Agha Salman and Iftikhar Ahmed with the ball in the recent Test series. Bakht gave the example of Babar only giving Agha Salman two-three overs in one Test, and in another match, he let him bowl complete overs. He also didn’t utilise Iftikhar.

Under Babar’s captaincy, Pakistan lost five Tests, won one, and drew three out of nine they played in 2022, including losing the home Test series against Australia and England.

Bakht’s comments also questioned Babar’s ability to make decisions in line with the situation.
