Explosions Prompt Sindh’s Transport Department to Clamp Down on CNG Canisters

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Sindh’s transportation authority has initiated a comprehensive crackdown on the unlawful utilization of CNG canisters in all public transportation vehicles, including school vans carrying children, following a string of accidents linked to their usage.

Imposing an absolute prohibition on the use of CNG cylinders, the authority has issued strict directives to all provincial commissioners and pertinent officials to ensure full compliance.

Despite frequent warnings from the government to cease the illegal use of these cylinders in public transport, the authorities’ efforts have been fruitless. There have been instances of explosions in vehicles attributable to the use of dubious cylinders.

Ahmed Nawaz Cheema, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Traffic in Karachi, informed The Republic Policy News that his department has been issuing fines for violations since 2016 when the Supreme Court imposed the ban after extensive hearings.
