The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has announced plans to ramp up efforts to combat corruption and tax evasion within the organization. FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial revealed that a new reward and punishment system will be implemented to ensure greater accountability among senior tax officers. Additionally, the FBR will be collaborating with intelligence agencies to track down officers involved in corrupt activities.

The chairman also outlined measures to enhance the reward system for exceptional performance and to crack down on tax evaders. Furthermore, plans to establish model tax offices, digital enforcement stations, and a special fund for enforcement collectorates were also disclosed. Earlier this year, 25 officers in higher pay grades were removed from the FBR based on intelligence reports about their financial integrity and competence. The government has since made new transfer and postings of officers to fill the vacancies.
