[post-views]

A powerful flood wave that surged through Punjab has now entered Sindh, raising water levels at key barrages across the province, officials confirmed on Sunday. The Sindh Information Department reported very high flood levels at Head Panjnad, where inflow and outflow reached 446,820 cusecs — a sharp rise of nearly 98,000 cusecs. At Trimmu headworks, inflow and outflow climbed to 508,371 cusecs.

Further downstream, Guddu Barrage recorded an inflow of 366,151 cusecs, Sukkur Barrage 329,990 cusecs, while Kotri Barrage stood at 245,000 cusecs inflow and 226,497 cusecs outflow. In Punjab’s Rahim Yar Khan district, the Chenab River swelled to high flood levels at Liaquatpur. The collapse of the Zamindara embankment in Noorwala forced floodwaters into homes and schools, while crops were submerged.

Rescue teams are conducting operations to evacuate stranded families, though challenges remain as water levels continue to rise. The Information Department noted that Trimmu Barrage registered a 112,576 cusecs increase in just 12 hours. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast widespread thunderstorms and scattered heavy rains across Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Tharparkar, until September 10.
