Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has warned that floodwaters from Punjab are expected to reach Sindh on the night of September 2 or 3, raising fresh concerns for already vulnerable districts.
Addressing a press briefing in Karachi, Memon said the Sindh government had prepared extensive rescue and relief arrangements to deal with the expected influx of water. He stated that 192 government-owned rescue boats, 565 private boats, and 36 mobile health units were on standby to ensure immediate evacuation and medical assistance for affected populations.
The minister also reviewed the water situation at Guddu, Sukkur, and Kotri barrages, noting that current flows remain at “daily levels” but will likely rise as waters enter Sindh in the coming days. He assured that the provincial administration was monitoring the situation closely in coordination with disaster management authorities.
Sharjeel Memon urged the media to rely on updates from the Sindh government’s Control Room, which is directly linked with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), to avoid misinformation.
The minister emphasized vigilance, preparedness, and coordination as essential to minimizing the human and material losses expected from the incoming floodwaters.
