On Monday, the Foreign Office reaffirmed that the decision to deport undocumented foreign residents in Pakistan aligns with the country’s sovereign domestic laws and international principles.
In response to a statement from the United Nations High Commissioner (UNHCR), spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasized that the decision to deport these individuals was “in accordance with Pakistan’s sovereign domestic laws and complies with relevant international standards and principles.”
The UNHCR had appealed to Pakistani authorities to halt the deportations as the November 1 deadline drew near.
“We have reviewed the press statement from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The Illegal Foreigners Repatriation Plan (IFRP) applies to all undocumented foreign residents in Pakistan, regardless of their nationality or country of origin,” stated Baloch in a press release.
