Former finance minister laments Pakistan’s economy

In a speech at an event in Karachi, former federal minister Miftah Ismail expressed concern over the challenging task of restoring Pakistan’s economy and hoped for divine intervention.

Miftah acknowledged that reviving the economy was an arduous and formidable undertaking that would require “sacrifices” to overcome the current financial crisis.

Despite the powers being delegated to provinces under the 18th Amendment, funds still fail to reach the grassroots level, according to the former finance minister.

He called on the federal government to decrease its expenditures and criticized the provincial government for not collecting taxes, emphasizing that the current state of the economy was not due to mistakes made in one year but rather the cumulative outcome of 75 years.
