Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi Seek Urgent IHC Hearing Over Toshakhana and Al-Qadir Trust Cases

[post-views]

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have approached the Islamabad High Court seeking urgent hearings to overturn their Toshakhana I conviction and suspend sentences in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case, citing “delays” and “stalling tactics” by the prosecution.

The couple’s appeals challenge the January 31, 2024, Accountability Court verdict sentencing them to 14 years in Adiala Jail, though the IHC suspended these sentences in April 2024. They argue the trial court erred in judgment and ignored crucial evidence.

Imran’s petition highlights his medical condition, “right central retinal vein occlusion,” which cannot be treated adequately in jail, while Bushra, described as a “parda-nasheen” woman, claims she is implicated solely due to her marriage. Bushra also requested a decision on her Section 426 CrPC plea, pending for over ten months.

The petitions allege procedural delays by NAB and restricted access to legal counsel, violating constitutional rights. Both seek court orders to allow unhindered meetings with lawyers and stress that justice must be seen to be done.

Filed by a legal team including Barristers Salman Safdar, Salman Akram Raja, and Ali Zafar, the couple urged the IHC to expedite their appeals to prevent “irreparable loss.”
