Tragic Accident Claims Promising Young Cyclist’s Life

In a heartbreaking incident during a junior race in Austria, the cycling world lost a budding talent, 17-year-old Jacopo Venzo from Italy. The devastating accident took place during the first stage of the Junioren Rundfahrt when Venzo had a fateful crash while descending. He was swiftly airlifted to a hospital in Linz for urgent medical attention. Despite a brave fight, Venzo tragically succumbed to his injuries the following day, leading to the cancellation of the tour. Representing Campana Imballaggi Geo&Tex Trentino, his team announced the heart-wrenching news, saying, “With tears in our eyes and devastated hearts, we announce that our junior Jacopo Venzo has left us.”

The loss of such a young talent has deeply saddened the cycling community, with the president of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), David Lappartient, mourning the untimely death of this promising athlete and the bright future he could have had in competitive cycling.

The accident occurred during the downhill segment as a group of 140 racers descended from Mistelbacher Berg during the race’s first stage from Haid to Marchtrenk. Venzo’s team attributed the tragic incident to a severe fall during the descent.
