Government Cuts Petrol Price by Rs5.66 Per Litre

The federal government on Wednesday night reduced the price of petrol by Rs5.66 per litre for the next fortnight, setting the new rate at Rs263.02 per litre, according to a notification from the Finance Division. The price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has also been cut by Rs1.39 to Rs275.41 per litre.

Similarly, kerosene oil now costs Rs181.71 per litre after a reduction of Rs3.26, while light diesel oil has been priced at Rs162.76 per litre. The notification stated that the decision was made based on recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

Petrol, widely used by private vehicles, motorcycles, and rickshaws, directly affects middle- and lower-income households, while high-speed diesel plays a critical role in the transport and agriculture sectors. Economists note that reduced diesel prices could help moderate food inflation driven by transport costs.
