The Cabinet Division in Islamabad has issued a warning to all federal ministries and departments regarding fraudulent emails and WhatsApp messages falsely attributed to government entities, following a string of reported cyber attacks.

In a communication sent to all federal ministries on Sunday, it was reported that fake emails and messages had been circulating, originating from deceptive email addresses bearing the name “JS (COORD).”

The letter further disclosed that various ministries had received spurious emails from counterfeit IDs claiming to be from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and the PM Secretariat.

The Cabinet Division emphasized that these deceptive emails contained harmful attachments that encouraged recipients to download files onto their computer systems.

In response to these developments, the Cabinet Division has advised all federal ministries to exercise caution with regard to such emails and communications while an investigation is underway at the highest levels.

Furthermore, the letter noted that emails and phone calls purportedly from the Special Investment Facility Council (SIFC) may also be deceptive.
