Guru Nanak’s 554th Birth Anniversary Celebrations Commence in Nankana Sahib
The 554th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, commenced today in Nankana Sahib, Pakistan’s spiritual center for the Sikh community. Approximately 3,000 Sikh pilgrims from India arrived in Lahore via the Wagah Border crossing to participate in the festivities.
Additional Secretary Shrines Rana Shahid Saleem and President of the Sikh Parbandhak Committee, Sardar Ameer Singh, warmly welcomed the pilgrims upon their arrival at the Wagah Border.
Speaking to reporters, Khushmindar Singh, a leader from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Amritsar, expressed the Sikh community’s deep affection for Pakistan, which draws them back repeatedly. He commended the Pakistani government, particularly the Evacuation Trust Property Board (ETPB), for their efforts in safeguarding Gurdwaras across the country.
Sardar Ameer Singh, President of the Sikh Parbandhak Committee, expressed his gratitude to his parents for choosing to remain in Pakistan during the partition, stating that it is a land revered in Sikhism akin to Makkah and Madinah. He also acknowledged the ETPB’s close collaboration with the prabandhak committee in making all necessary arrangements for the pilgrims’ visit.
During their 10-day stay in Pakistan, the Sikh pilgrims will visit prominent Gurdwaras, including Janam Asthan Nankana Sahib, Punja Sahib Hassanabdal, Sacha Sauda, Dera Sahib Lahore, Rohri Sahib Aimenabad, and Darbar Sahib Kartarpur Narowal.
The main ceremony commemorating Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary will be held at Janam Asthan Nankana Sahib on Monday.
