Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar emphasized that Pakistan refuses to take sides in the escalating global rivalry between China and the US, opting to maintain a neutral stance.
During an interview with European news outlet POLITICO, Khar stressed that Pakistan is wary of the potential consequences of an all-out conflict between the US and China. In such a scenario, Pakistan would face an unfavorable strategic dilemma.
“We are deeply concerned about the idea of dividing the world into two opposing camps,” Khar expressed, highlighting the country’s apprehension regarding further fragmentation and decoupling on a global scale.
She further stated, “We have a long-standing history of close collaboration with the US, and we have no intention of abandoning that. Similarly, Pakistan has maintained a strong partnership with China, and that has always been the case even before China’s rise as a perceived threat.”
As a key player in the race for strategic influence in Asia, Pakistan is closely observed by front-line states.
