Hamburg authorities reported on Saturday that they were managing a hostage situation following an incident where a man breached a security barrier and entered the city’s airport with a child.
Shortly after the occurrence at approximately 8 p.m. local time, the airport ceased all takeoffs and landings.
According to a police representative, the vehicle, containing a 35-year-old man and a 4-year-old child, was positioned beneath an aircraft. A significant police presence was evident at the scene late on Saturday.
Although authorities initially suggested that the man may have been armed and discharged shots, they now believe it may be linked to a custody dispute. The child’s mother informed the police that the father had communicated with her regarding the incident.
The incident affected 27 flights, according to an airport spokesperson.
