Political alienation and desperation are two related but distinct concepts that can affect the youth of a country in different ways. Political alienation refers to estrangement or rejection from the prevailing political system, resulting from various factors such as lack of representation, corruption, oppression, injustice, or dissatisfaction with the status quo. Political desperation refers to the hopelessness or recklessness that leads people to take risks or resort to violence to change their situation, which can stem from extreme poverty, oppression, injustice, or frustration with the political system. Both political alienation and desperation can have negative consequences for the youth of a country, as they can undermine their trust, confidence, and engagement in democratic processes and institutions and make them vulnerable to radicalization, extremism, or criminality.

It is critical to counter political alienation and desperation among the youth of Pakistan, and several measures can be taken at different levels for it. At the individual level, the youth need to be educated and empowered to develop their civic skills and political awareness and to participate in various forms of political action, such as voting, campaigning, protesting, or volunteering. They also need to be provided with opportunities and resources to improve their socio-economic conditions and prospects, such as access to quality education, health care, employment, and entrepreneurship. At the collective level, the youth need to be represented and involved in the political decision-making and policy-making processes at the local and national levels. They also need to be encouraged and supported to form and join various youth organizations and movements that can advocate for their interests and rights and foster a sense of belonging and solidarity among them.

The political system needs to be reformed and improved at the systemic level to ensure transparency, accountability, responsiveness, and inclusiveness. The political parties must be more democratic and meritocratic in their internal structures and practices and more open and appealing to the youth in their agendas and platforms. Political institutions must be more effective and efficient in delivering public goods and services and more respectful and protective of human rights and the rule of law. The political culture must be more tolerant and pluralistic in accepting diversity and dissent and more constructive and peaceful in resolving conflicts and disputes.
Lastly, Pakistan must develop confidence among the youth of Pakistan for the institutions of the state and society. Therefore, the process must begin with the empowerment of political rights and allowing them to choose their representatives. Then, political participation and empowerment will create a better sense of belonging, ultimately eliminating political alienation and desperation. Then, economic and cultural participation and opportunities will further develop confidence among the youth in Pakistan. Lastly, the rule of law in the social, administrative and political structures shall create a better state and society where youths will find more functional confidence and trust.
