Important meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur

ISLAMABAD: In an unusual political development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held an important meeting on Wednesday.

Talking to the media after the meeting, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur expressed his satisfaction and said that the meeting was very positive.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister discussed public welfare, provincial issues and law enforcement issues with the Prime Minister.

Ali Amin Gandapour requested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to facilitate a meeting with the PTI founder, stressing the need for political dialogue with the imprisoned leader to resolve key issues.

He disclosed that the Prime Minister assured him to arrange a meeting with the founder of PTI even in the strictest security environment of Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

Ali Amin Gandapur said that I told him that political engagement with the founder of PTI is very important for solving political problems. He was very positive and told me that he would make my appointment possible so that I could complete the consultation regarding the Senate election.

The KP chief minister also asked for the appointment of a new chief secretary for the province, recommending Shahab Ali Shah for the post.

Gandapur demanded approval of Rs 1,500 billion dues for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa like other provinces and asked for allocation of equal funds.

Gandapur said Shahbaz Sharif has assured full cooperation.

Referring to the PTI founder’s letter to the IMF, Gandapur clarified that it did not imply a stand against funding for Pakistan.

Regarding Prime Minister Shehbaz’s recent visit to KP, Gandapur explained his absence in Peshawar that day and emphasized the tradition of hospitality to guests.

Gandapur also said that a meeting regarding national security will be organized soon.

The Chief Minister said that he raised the issue of election rigging with the Prime Minister.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Finance Minister Mohammad Aurangzeb, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Planning Commission Minister Ahsan Iqbal were also present during the meeting.

Talking to the media, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal welcomed the meeting and expressed hope for continued cooperation between the federal units.

He affirmed the Prime Minister’s commitment to solve the problems of loadshedding and prisoners with the formation of a joint team for federal and provincial cooperation, as well as resolve the dues of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after talks with the IMF.

Summarizing the meeting, Iqbal emphasized unity among political diversity, saying, “Today’s meeting can be summed up in two words: We all have our own politics, but the state is together.”

Ahsan Iqbal also reiterated the commitment of the federal government to promote peace and development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
