Imran Khan Petitions Court Against Possible Military Custody

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Imran Khan, the incarcerated PTI founder, has filed a petition with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to prevent his potential transfer to military custody for the trials related to the May 9 cases. Following protests and social media coverage of unrest last year, Imran was “arrested” in these cases on July 15, and there have been concerns that he may be tried in a military court. The petition, filed under Article 199 of the Constitution, lists multiple respondents and argues against the possibility of Imran being taken into military custody.

It emphasizes the importance of the matter in relation to the rule of law and the petitioner’s rights, and requests that the court restrain the respondents from transferring Imran to military custody while ensuring his confinement under the jurisdiction of civilian courts. Another petition also highlights the potential infringements on Imran’s fundamental rights if he were to be placed in military custody.
