India Bans All Imports From Pakistan as Tensions Soar After Kashmir Attack

India has announced a complete ban on importing goods from Pakistan, a major escalation in tensions between the two countries following a deadly attack last month in Indian-administered Kashmir.

The decision, made “in the interest of national security,” was issued by India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade and took effect immediately. The ban applies not only to goods made in Pakistan but also to any items that pass through Pakistan on their way to India.

This follows a brutal assault in the scenic Pahalgam area of Jammu and Kashmir, where gunmen killed 26 tourists. India blames Pakistan for the attack—an accusation Pakistan firmly denies. Instead, Islamabad says it has intelligence suggesting India may be preparing for military retaliation.
