Disappointed Indian fans, disheartened by India’s loss to Australia in the World Cup final, have reportedly directed their frustration towards the wife of Australian cricket star Glenn Maxwell, as per a report by the Daily Mail.
Despite facing a top-order challenge, Australia clinched victory with seven overs to spare, propelled by Travis Head’s remarkable 137 off 120 balls in a match held at India’s Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, attended by nearly 100,000 spectators eagerly anticipating an Indian triumph.
Vini Raman, Maxwell’s wife of Indian origin, disclosed that she and her husband faced abusive messages from some supporters. Addressing the issue on Instagram, she wrote, “Cue all the hateful, vile DMs (direct messages). Stay classy. Can’t believe this needs to be said but you can be Indian and also support the country of your birth where you have been raised and more importantly the team your husband and father of your child plays in.” The incident sheds light on the unfortunate dark side of fan reactions amid the emotional intensity of cricket rivalries.
